This year we have seen some amazing games come out, and as usual developers hyped up their games to promote sales. Promoting is not an evil thing for the most part, however when developers go overboard in hyping the game to no end, is when gamers should draw the line and take it with a pinch of salt.
Games like Assassins Creed Unity, Destiny, Watch_Dogs, were all decent games, but they did not live up to the hype that the developers set, and thus bringing our hopes crashing down. At every E3 or for that matter at most gaming events, a new game is announced and gamers are told what the game will contain and how it has amazing new features like never before, which results into gamers getting excited.
And as hype increases to an uncontrollable level, many companies realize that they cannot deliver the hype that they promised and so gamers are forced to hate the product and company with extreme prejudice. With that said here are some games that were hyped and in some way, didn’t deliver or meet expectations.

Note: List is in random order
Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands
After the enormity of success that was The Prince of Persia trilogy, Ubisoft decided to create another Prince of Persia game, only this time, it was a interquel. Now obviously with the Prince of Persia title on the game, fans were super excited for the game and wondered what would the game be like. Sadly they were in for a major disappointment, as The Forgotten Sands under delivered by a lot. Overall, the game was rushed making it the weakest entry in the series.
ZombieU
As you can guess, ZombiU is a first-person survival horror video game developed by Ubisoft Montpellier for the Wii U. Now for the most part it seemed as though the Wii U will be receiving a good action exclusive. However to make a long story short, ZombieU was a bad game and shouldn’t have been over-hyped as a big part of the WiiU’s starting line-up. However if you really enjoy bashing Zombies with a bat for hours on end, then this will be right up your alley.
LA Noire
LA Noire boasted on features such as 32 surrounding cameras to capture facial expressions from every angle. The technology was central and played a huge part in the interrogation mechanic, as players must use the suspect reactions and facial expressions for questioning to judge whether or not they are lying. Now while the facial animation of each character was superb, there was something off about the game. The game was pretty repetitive and boring, as the gameplay was quite different from the initial vision of the game.
Rage
While Rage was not a terrible game, it was in some ways disappointing. I wasn’t expecting miracles, but id Software hadn’t delivered a AAA game for a long time, but there was some glimmer of hope. I was expecting something awesome given way the developers hyped it up. The things that really made this game frustrating was the lack of story, undeveloped characters and uninteresting quests.
Metriod The Other M
Metriod The Other M was considered one of the “Biggest Disappointments” of 2010 by many critics and rightly so. Many reviewers and fans found the game to be quite frustrating. The developers messed up one of the most beloved franchises in gaming history as it should have been a much better game than it actually was, Unfortunately it ended up appearing like a very, lazy and sloppy.
Thief (2014)
Thief 2014 had a lot of promise to become something great, however the developers did something wrong, and that was just overhyping the game to no end. Long time fans that were hoping for Garrett’s grand return, and oh boy, were really disappointed. The game was quite easy, unlike the original games. Additionally increasing the game’s difficulty will do little for a challenge. While some of the gameplay was good, the overall plot and character design was a mess.
