Pokemon Go UPDATE: Legendary release date draws near, as fans given NEW reason to play

POKEMON Go fans might not have to wait very long for the Legendary release date, as fans are given another reason to go out and catch them all.

Pokemon Go fans will be happy to hear that Legendary Pokemon could be included in the app's next big update.

Fans have been waiting for Legendary Pokemon such as Moltres, Articuno and Zapdos to be given a release date, but Niantic is yet to oblige.

According to Slashgear, an anonymous source has confirmed that Niantic is now considering a Legendary rollout as part of the next major update.

There is a suggestion that the next Pokemon Go event will be tied to Chinese New Year, while Valentine's Day also seems like a safe bet for themed content.

Keeping users engaged will be one of Niantic's main aims going forward, especially with predictions of a slow decline in 2017.

Continued Pokemon Go updates have kept users engaged in the weeks and months since launch, and it's this level of engagement that could be adding years to your life.

New research suggests that Pokemon Go players were three times as likely to meet official activity guidelines in the US.

According to the report posted on Gamasutra, this has the potential to affect life expectancy among players.

"Highly engaged users were almost 3 times as likely to meet official activity guidelines in the 30 days after starting to play Pokemon Go compared with that before," the report reads.

"If this user engagement could be sustained, Pokemon Go would have the potential to measurably affect US life expectancy."

The study carried out by Stanford University researchers goes on to say that engaged users were likely to increase average daily activity by 26%.

Nintendo sent out email stock alerts for the Pokemon Go Plus trackers, telling fans that they could pre-order ahead of a stock refresh at the end of March.

Exclusive to the Nintendo UK store, the Pokemon Go Plus tracker will be sent out for delivery on March 31.

"This portable device enables Pokémon GO players to enjoy the game even while they're not looking at their smartphones," reads a Nintendo statement.

"The device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth and notifies the player about events in the game – such as the appearance of a Pokémon nearby – using an LED and vibration.

"In addition, players can catch Pokémon or perform other simple actions by pressing the button on the device."

The device is still available to pre-order at the time of writing, although it's limited to one per customer.

Pokemon Go might have a major problem on its hands, as Niantic's app faces a ban in China.

China is concerned about the security risks connected to the Augmented Reality game, which could really scupper the developer’s plans.

Prompted by a "high level of responsibility to national security", various government departments are evaluating the game's risks.

With fears raised over the apps apparent use of Google Maps to track your location, it is unclear how Niantic plans to get round this problem.

The company is yet to offer a solution, explaining that its attentions were focused elsewhere.
